TOSS - Teaching Of Specified Subjects!

Hey guys, I know I have been really neglecting my blog! When I started this blog, I really wanted it to be a reflective journal. I wanted to come here and be able to write about, and describe the experiences that I am having as I complete my program in becoming an elementary school teacher. I really did not realize how busy I was going to be!! I am going to try this weekend to get my blog back up and working in a way that I can keep up. I have A LOT of funny stories from first grade that I want to share, so GET READY!!

Calm before the storm...

Pretty calm week this week. Classes are all drawing to an end, and final projects are getting turned in. I always love the week before finals because I feel like I get so much accomplished!! All the things that I have been working on for the semester are getting turned in and I can check them off my to do lists. Finals are not going to be very bad this semester.

Finished up my Pre-School Curriculum class today, and after all, I ended up really enjoying that class! I went in thinking, Pre-School? I don't want to teach Pre-School!! But with the way the job market is right now, I have realized that next year it may be a possibility, for a little while anyways. I think that once I got into my field experience, and I met the WONDERFUL students in my class, it really changed my mind.

I was working with a special needs pre-k. The children varied in their abilities and temperament, but I really enjoyed getting to see them every week. I have always known that it takes a very special person to work with children with special needs, and never thought I may be interested in that. But working with these children was amazing. I love working with kids, helping them learn something new, and the excitement on their faces when they finally get something we have been working on is priceless. But something was different with these kids. They already have so much more that they have to learn to do, and with them, the smallest achievement sent us through the roof. I think that is one thing I want to strive for in my classroom someday. I want every achievement, big or small, to be a HUGE deal!! I know it may be hard to acknowledge somethings, but I want to try. Who knows, maybe that's all some of these kids need, someone to cheer for them when they succeed. It may be a big undertaking, but I'm up for the challenge!!!

First Post!

Well, I have finally decided to create a blog!!! Some of my friends have been blogging for a while, and while I have loved reading and keeping up with their families, I really didn't think I had anything to blog about. I decided that it would be a great way for me to reflect on my experiences during student teaching!! So over the next year I'll be writing about my experiences in the classroom. One thing I love about being in the education field, is that everyday is a new experience! Maybe this will just be something for me to look back on at the end, or maybe you will get your daily laughs hearing about what the kids did that day in class!! Either way, it will be something I can keep and reflect back on in the years to come!!! I'm looking forward to the next year, but remember, Expect the Unexpected!!
